A police officer was alerted to a suspicious device on Ocean Street around 3:30 p.m., leading to the area being sealed off and evacuated by police and fire units. The State Fire Marshal’s office confirmed it was a pipe bomb, described as wrapped in electrical tape with wires.
The Bomb Squad responded and remotely detonated the device safely before 6:00 p.m., with no injuries reported. The incident is being investigated by state police attached to the Fire Marshal’s office and Marshfield police.
Marshfield police Chief Phillip Tavares stated that officials believed the pipe bomb was meant for a specific target, not the general public, and that it wasn’t necessarily placed on the esplanade, which is still under investigation. Authorities advised the public to contact them immediately if they find suspicious objects and not to touch them, as moving them can cause detonation.
