Another parent claims former student at Plymouth elementary school wandered off property last year
PLYMOUTH, Mass. (Plimoth) — Another Plymouth parent has come forward claiming their child wandered off school property last year while attending a local elementary school, raising renewed concerns about student supervision and safety.
According to the parent, their daughter — a former kindergartner at Nathaniel Morton Elementary School — left school grounds after being dropped off by a school bus in January 2025. The child was later found safe after approaching another parent and child nearby, telling them she was cold.
The parents say they were not notified of the incident until the end of the school day, despite their child being unaccounted for during school hours. An incident report was later shared with media outlets, prompting calls from the family for improved safety protocols and communication from the school district.
The claim surfaced publicly amid heightened scrutiny of Plymouth Public Schools following a separate, more recent incident in which another kindergartner was found wandering off school property earlier this year. That case has sparked concern among families across the community.
In response to the more recent incident, Plymouth school officials said the child exited school grounds without authorization and was placed under supervision once located. The district has stated that student safety is taken seriously and that procedures are being reviewed.
Boston media outlets have reported that public records requests have been filed seeking information on how many similar incidents may have occurred in Plymouth schools over the past two years.
Parents are now urging school leaders to strengthen supervision during arrival, dismissal, and after-school programs to prevent future incidents.
