Explosion Sparks House Fire in Plymouth
PLYMOUTH, Mass. (Plimoth)— An early-morning explosion sparked a house fire in Plymouth on Monday, prompting a large response from local firefighters and investigators.
Fire crews were called to a single-family home on Haven Road just before 10 a.m. following reports of an explosion and visible flames. When firefighters arrived, they encountered heavy fire conditions on the second floor of the home.
Plymouth Fire Department officials said crews launched an aggressive interior attack and were able to bring the blaze under control in approximately 20 minutes, preventing the fire from spreading further into the attic.
All occupants were able to escape the home before firefighters arrived. No serious injuries were reported, though one individual was evaluated at the scene as a precaution. The American Red Cross of Massachusetts is assisting several displaced residents with temporary housing.
Due to the nature of the incident, the Massachusetts State Police Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit, along with Plymouth fire officials, is investigating the cause of the explosion and fire. Authorities say the investigation remains ongoing.
Fire officials noted that limited hydrant access in the area presented challenges, but crews were able to rely on water carried on fire apparatus to contain the flames.
More information is expected to be released once investigators determine the cause of the explosion.
