Officials are seeking charges after a head-on crash that occurred Sunday night (January 11/12, 2026) on Plain Street in Marshfield, Massachusetts (Route 139). The collision happened around 9:09 p.m. when a vehicle crossed the center line and struck another car head-on.
🚓 Involvement of an off-duty officer
- Police say the crash involved an off-duty Marshfield police officer, who was driving a Jeep that crossed the double-solid yellow lines and attempted to pass other vehicles before hitting a Honda Civic head-on.
- The Jeep driver (the off-duty officer) was able to get out of his vehicle on his own; the other driver was trapped and had to be extricated by emergency crews.
- Both drivers were taken to the hospital with serious injuries, and the officer has been placed on administrative leave while the investigation continues.

Marshfield police are seeking charges against the off-duty officer, including:
- Reckless operation of a motor vehicle
- Two counts of marked lanes violation
- Speed greater than reasonable and proper
