Rochester Man Sentenced to State Prison in 2023 Fatal Shooting
PLYMOUTH COUNTY, MA (plimoth)— A Rochester man has been sentenced to state prison following his conviction in a fatal shooting that occurred in 2023, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz announced.
Cody Perry, 36, of Rochester, was sentenced to 8 to 10 years in Massachusetts state prison after being found guilty of voluntary manslaughter and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury.

The charges stem from an incident that occurred on April 7, 2023, at a property on New Bedford Road in Rochester. According to prosecutors, police responded to reports of a shooting and found 41-year-old Justin Doberck of Mattapoisett suffering from a gunshot wound. Doberck was transported to a hospital in New Bedford, where he was pronounced dead.
Investigators determined that a dispute had taken place earlier in the evening during a gathering. Authorities said Perry later retrieved a firearm and shot Doberck. Perry was arrested at the scene without incident.
Prosecutors sought a longer prison term of 18 to 20 years, citing the seriousness of the crime. The court ultimately imposed an 8–10 year sentence in state prison.
The case was prosecuted by the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office in Plymouth County Superior Court.
