⚠️ Nor’easter Threat Looms for Plymouth County — Snow, Wind & Coastal Impacts Expected Monday
PLYMOUTH COUNTY, MA — A powerful nor’easter is forecast to impact southeastern Massachusetts and neighboring New England communities Sunday night into Monday, February 23, 2026, bringing the potential for significant snow, strong winds and coastal hazards.
Meteorologists are closely tracking a low-pressure system that could strengthen rapidly as it moves northeastward off the East Coast. Forecast guidance from regional weather services shows increasing confidence that snow will begin late Sunday night and continue through much of Monday, with the greatest impacts expected along the South Shore, Cape Cod and the Islands — areas that could see 12 inches or more of accumulation if the storm tracks close to the coastline.
Snow totals farther inland, including much of Plymouth County, remain dependent on the storm’s exact track but models suggest accumulations of several inches are possible through the morning and afternoon hours on Monday. Widespread blowing snow and reduced visibility are likely with gusty northeast winds.
In addition to heavy snow, forecasters warn of strong winds with gusts potentially approaching coastal wind advisory levels, raising concerns for hazardous travel, downed tree limbs and potential power outages. Coastal communities may also face minor to moderate flooding as high tides coincide with onshore winds.
The National Weather Service has already issued winter storm watches and coastal flood watches across portions of southeastern Massachusetts, including Plymouth County, as officials urge residents to prepare for winter weather impacts.
Local authorities recommend staying updated with the latest forecasts, planning ahead for Monday travel, and securing supplies in case conditions worsen overnight Sunday into Monday. School and municipal closures or delays are possible depending on final snowfall amounts and wind severity.
As of now, forecasters emphasize there is still uncertainty in the storm’s exact track and timing, and urge the public to monitor updates as the nor’easter approaches.
