23-Year-Old Suspect in Brockton Double Murder Held Without Bail After Capture in Mexico
BROCKTON, Mass. — March 3, 2026 — A 23-year-old man accused of killing two teenagers outside a busy shopping plaza in Brockton last year was ordered held without bail Tuesday following his arraignment in Plymouth Superior Court.
Davinci Leonard, who had been a fugitive for nearly a year, was captured by authorities in Mexico in February and subsequently extradited to Massachusetts to face charges.
Leonard is charged with two counts of murder in the deaths of 15-year-old Tymari Albertson and 18-year-old Cevannah Alvarez, who were shot during an altercation outside the Chipotle at the Westgate Mall on March 22, 2025.
In addition to the murder charges, prosecutors say Leonard faces counts of discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, and carrying ammunition without a Firearms Identification (FID) card.
During Tuesday’s court appearance, Leonard pleaded not guilty and was remanded to custody without bail. The judge cited the severity of the charges and the fact that Leonard fled the state after the shooting.
Authorities had been searching for Leonard since the deadly shooting last spring, at times offering a reward for information leading to his arrest. Federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies worked together to locate and apprehend him in Mexico in February.
Leonard is scheduled to return to court for a pre-trial hearing in May 2026 as the case continues.
